St Peter Port Guernsey at sunset, from Gouliot headland, Sark. Watercolour.
Early evening, with the light changing and fading is my favourite time to go out and paint. With the lights twinkling on Guernsey and the luminosity of the sunset against the dark sky changing by the second it is a real challenge to capture the mood as it happens.

Creux Derrible, Sark. Watercolour.
This big natural cave is unusually dramatic in the way that light comes in not only from the two entrances from Derrible Bay, but also from above where the roof has completely eroded away to leave a steep-sided chimney.

Grand Autelet, Sark. Watercolour.
As viewed from the boulder-strewn beach in between Port du Moulin and Saignie Bay, the Grand Autelet is a patchwork of subtle colours from blue-grey to brightest ochre. Usually there are sea birds of some description perching on the rock. This time a greater black-backed Gull and a crow are using it as a lookout.

Gull’s nest above Pegane bay, west coast, Sark. Watercolour & pencil.
This nest I found in the scrubby grasses on a ledge on top of Tintageu, using pencil to depict the incredibly detailed markings on the eggs and washes of watercolour to render the lighter colours of the sea and cliffs in the background.

Looking north from Greve de la Ville, Sark. Watercolour.
A good location for painting especially on a hot afternoon such as this one when the beach offers some shade for an artist while at the same time the sun lighting up the colours of the lichens on the rocks.

Rock pool, Port du Moulin, Sark. Watercolour.
A very good place to go ‘rockpooling’ on low water, with many beautiful varieties of seaweed and other marine life temporarily ’stranded’ as the tide recedes. This pool was just the other side of the rock arch and the strong sun was casting deep shadows allowing me to see through the water to the pebbles below

I need some advice for my blog….I like your layout. Can you help me?
Hi there,
we have used the ‘constructor theme’ by Anton Shevchuk and modified the ‘lime’ style sheet using the wordpress interface. One sidebar is used for navigation on the right. The background was created from one of the watercolour paintings. If you are new to wordpress I would recommend starting with the documentation here and also the forums here. We are quite new to wordpress as well and have found the best way to learn is to give it a try and learn as you go along.
I hope this helps.
